Description

Winner of the Excellence in Tourism Award for Best Budget Hotel. Lonely Planet 2003: "Offers Suva’s best budget accommodation on the edge of the rainforest" "Staff are fantastically friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and the restaurant is superb" Lets Go 2003: "Raintree’s system of wooden lodges is a millionaire’s dream" Moon Guide 2001: "A Model for Ecotourism in Fiji" Raintree Lodge is located on Princes Road, Colo-i-Suva (pronounced Tholo-ee-Suva), opposite the Police Post and next to the Forest Park and the Forestry Department. Princes Road is the scenic alternative route between Nausori Airport and Suva, recently tar-sealed and relatively free of traffic. Raintree Lodge is approximately 15 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from Suva. Trips to Suva are easy by local bus or taxi, at doorstep. Timber buildings are carefully sited amongst trees and boulders, with views over the lakes - accommodation caters for backpackers in one section of the property (3 dormitories with self catering kitchen, toilet/shower block with hot water showers) and couples/families in another section (4 detached Bures/Lodges/Lodges). A restaurant, bar, shop and reception/office near the front entrance caters for both guests and locals.

How to Get Here - If you are coming from Nadi, fly to Nausori Airport or travel by bus (3.5 hour scenic drive) to Suva. Raintree Lodge is a 12 minute drive from Suva City. From Nausori Airport take a taxi ($12 FJD). From Suva take the local ’Saweni’ bus (Tacirua, Bus Company) from Bus Stand next to the market in Suva, 90 cents, children halfprice, runs every hour, 6am7pm, ask to get off at Raintree Lodge in Colo i Suva. Taxis from Suva cost $7.00 to $8.00 LINE TRANSFERS - Air Fiji and Sunflower Airlines operate several flights per day from Suva (Nausori Airport) to Nadi, Taveuni, Labasa and various other outer islands. Both airlines have offices in town and at the airports

Climate - The climate in Colo-i-Suva is pleasant all year round, with a sweater necessary on winter evenings (June/July). No sandflies, very few mosquitoes and clean, cool, fresh forest air makes this part of Suva very appealing!

Educational activities such as talks and demonstrations are provided, some free of charge and private tours to villages and around Suva can be arranged.

Volleyball and petanque can be played on the court opposite the Recreation Room - sunset competitions are a regular event.
